There is also a supplemental disability Insurance plan that would be available at a cost to the Fire Fighter, If additional disability is requested. While disability benefits are tax free if the policy premium has been paid by the individual, our Finance Officer has asked for clarification from the Internal Revenue Service as to the tax status of a plan with the base benefit provided by the City and supplemental benefits paid for by the individual. Recommendation: Staff recommendation is to have the City of Ramsey provide short-term disability through the Hartford's Volunteer Fire Fighters Accident Insurance Program at a cost of approximately $500 per year, depending on the number of Fire Department apparatus. The program would be administered with a contribution made to the Fire Fighters' Relief Association General Fund. The Relief Association would provide the City with premium statements as assurance that the funds are being used for that purpose. Although Michael Hadtrath is the City's Agent of Record, Mr Roth has provided a great deal of assistance in identifying a policy for our Fire Fighters. Due to this, Staff further recommends the bid be awarded to Mr. Roth. Council Action: Motion to approve/not approve the ~short-term disability plan for the volunteer Fire Department with the Hartford's Volunteer Fire Fighters Accident Insurance Program through Mr. Allan Roth and the Alexander Todd Group to be administered by the City of Ramsey through a contribution to the Fire Fighters' Relief Association General Fund.
