I I CASE PURCHASE OF MOBILE RADIOS By: Merle Mevissen, Public Works Supervisor Background: In the 1991 budget, $2,000.00 is budgeted for radios for the Public Works Department vehicles. We have one snow plow truck that was purchased in 1990 that needs a radio and a new pick-up truck planned for 1991 that will need a radio. The Civy Engineer has a ear that also needs a radio. Observations: I have obtained price quotes on several brands of radios including Motorola, G.E. and Midland. The Midland radio has the best price and features in the multi-channel, 40 watt range. Their prices are $615.00 each for a front mount radio and $795.00 for a trunk mount radio. Because of the prices received, I will be able to afford a badly needed base station radio within the allotted budget. At the present time, I must physically leave my office and transmit messages from a vehicle. Recommendation: At this time I am requesting two front mount Midland mobile radios for the Public Works Department; one to be used in the truck purchased in 1990 and one to be used as a base station in the Public Works garage. The third radio would be purchased at the time the new pick-up truck is purchased. I also recommend purchasing a Midland trunk mount mobile radio for the Engineering Department's new vehicle at a cost of $795.00 which will be funded from the 1990 Engineering Department start-up cost budget. The proposed resolution will be available at the meeting.
