C~uncilmember <br /> <br />introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #91-03-~ <br /> <br />RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 26, 1991 AS "ARBOR DAY" AND THE <br />MONTIt OF MAY 1991 AS "ARBOR MONTH" <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Minnesota's forest treasures were a significant attraction to early settlers because of <br />their usefulness and the beautiful environment they provided; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, trees are an increasingly vital resource in Minnesota today, enriching our lives by <br />purifying air and water, helping conserve soil and energy, creating jobs through a large forest <br />products industry, serving as recreational settings, providing habitat for wildlife of all kinds, and <br />making our cities more liveable; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, human activities such as construction damage and pollution, as well as disease and <br />insects, threaten our trees, creating the need for concerted action to ensure the future of urban and <br />rural forests in our state, country, and world; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, each year on the last Friday in April - "Arbor Day" - the people of Minnesota pay <br />special attention to the wonderful treasure that our trees represent and dedicate themselves to the <br />continued health of our state's stock of trees. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />1) That the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims April 26, 1991 as "Arbor Day". <br /> <br />2) <br /> <br />That the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims the month of May 1991 as "Arbor <br />Month". <br /> <br />3) <br /> <br />That the Ramsey City Council urges all citizens to become more aware of the <br />importance of trees to their well-being, to participate in tree planting programs that <br />will ensure a green Minnesota in decades to come, and to plant, nurture, protect, <br />and wisely use Minnesota's great treasure of trees. <br /> <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br /> and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br />and the following voted against the same: <br />and the following abstained: <br />and the following were absent: <br /> <br />whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted by the Ramsey City Council this <br />the 13th day of March, 1991. <br /> <br />Mayor <br /> <br />67 <br /> <br /> <br />
