The City of Ramsey recycled 7I t tons of material in 1990. Of this total amount, 102 tons were
from curbside recycling. The curbside figure includes the last nine months of the pilot program
and the first three months of the City-wide Curbside Recycling Program.

The first five months of the City-wide Curbside Recycling Program, the City recycled the
fo/lowing amounts of mater/al in the curbside program:

City-Wide Curbside Recycling Report
Based on 3580 Homes

Mon th Material Mon th ly
Newsprint Glass Metal Plastic Totals
Oct-90 15,840 3,700 1,350 420: 21,310
Nov-90 51,060 t4,960 '5,420 3,040 74,480
Dec-90 38,220 10,860 4,660 2,500 56,240
Jan-91 47,980 17,480 4,94'0 3,820 74,220
Feb-91 44,540 15,620 6,260 2,900 69,320

I

I

[Total I 197,6401 62,6201 22,6301 12,6801 295,$701

Based upon the above figures the City of Ramsey could expect to recycle 355 tons by the end of
1991. The City's goal for 1991 is 650 tons. The difference of 295 tons would have to be made up
from the amounts received at Ramsey's drop-offs.

Program Complaints

During the first five months of the curbside recycling program the City has received a total of 178
complaints. This averages out to 35.6 complaints per month. The majority of these complaints are
for missed pick-ups which are then picked up the following afternoon. During the month of
November the City received 102 complaints. Many of these can be contributed to November being
the first full month of the program. In the month of February, the City received 16 complaints
again; a majority of these being missed stops. The 35.6 complaints per month is .497% of the total
stops possible.

Program Participation

The City could also increase the levels of participation in the curbs/de program. Currently the City
has the following levels of participation for the first five months of the curbside program. These
figures are not adjusted for households that put material out only once a month. A rule of thumb is
to add ten to fifteen percent to adjust for these households.

Month #'~'f'" # of Employee~ Percent of
Homes Hours Participation
Oct-90 1047 49.42 Hours 29.39%
Nov-90 4280 175.19 Hours 60.08%

'7/

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
i
I
