Thus far, the City has <br />only received follow up questions, regarding this press release, from ABC newspapers. <br />Media Coverage of Proposed Total Defense Indoor Shooting Range. Interest in the shooting <br />range proposal continues to increase. Channel 9 was out last night, and Channel 4 interviewed <br />Police Chief Way this afternoon. Channel 5 has also expressed some interest, but has not yet <br />been to City Hall. Channel 4 crews also were reportedly at Total Defense this afternoon. <br />Staff's position points: <br />• Notifications were sent and published on Friday, December 27, 2013 Staff hand - <br />delivered notices to the retail tenants on Tuesday, December 31. <br />• There was an open house held on January 9 in regard to this issue. <br />• A public hearing was held by the Planning Commission on January 9 in regard to the <br />zoning code amendment and the Conditional Use Permit. <br />• Generally, the issues of most recent concern were discussed previously at the public <br />hearing held by the Planning Commission. <br />• The City Council introduced the ordinance, and gave contingent approval to the <br />Conditional Use Permit, on January 28. <br />• The proper avenue for the public to express concerns is by writing or attending the City <br />Council Meeting on 2/11, this is the consideration of the adoption of a zoning code <br />amendment that would allow the shooting range as a conditional use <br />• Tonight's Planning Commission meeting is only to provide information to the Planning <br />Commission regarding comments the City has received on this proposal. No action is <br />scheduled or recommended. The Planning Commission recommendation has already <br />been forwarded to the City Council, and under the City Attorney's advice, the Planning <br />Commission has no authority to re -open the case. <br />City staff (Police Chief Way, City Planner Anderson, and Development Services Manager <br />Gladhill) met with the child care center owner this morning. Staff will be hosting another open <br />house for concerned customers of Little Me Child Care. We are looking at 5 p.m. either at the <br />center, Hope Fellowship, or Rum River Hills on Monday, February 10. Alternatively, we are <br />looking at 6:00 at the Municipal Center. <br />Staff is aware of a petition coming forward to the City by Tuesday as well as a packet of <br />information from the child care center owner this afternoon. Customers boarded Northstar trains 787,239 times in 2013, the <br />highest number in the line's four -year history. This overall 12.4 percent increase is attributable to <br />a fare reduction made permanent in April and the addition of a station in Ramsey in November <br />2012.
