Schroeder, City Administrator Background: Minnesota Laws of 1991, Chapter 291, Article 4, Section 2 allows counties to levy up to a total of $1.00 per capita in 1992 for the purpose of covering costs associated with redistricting. These costs are primarily related to: Publication of new district boundaries. Postal notification to voters of new precinct assignments. Redrawing of County Commissioner districts. Redrawing of municipal wards and precinct boundaries. Reassignment of voters' records to new precincts and districts. The law also provides that 25¢ of the $1.00'levy be allocated to municipalities over 30,000 population to cover their costs associated with redistricting. The Anoka County Board of Commissioners is considering exercising this levy option. The Board would appreciate knowing your position on whether a levy for redistricting costs should be made. In considering how much the levy should be, members of the Board have expressed an interest in providing the 25¢ to all municipalities, regardless of population~who establish precinct boundaries along census block lines, and who request that the County Board distribute 25¢ to their municipality. Council Action To request that the Anoka County Board approve distribution of 25¢ per capita to municipalities.to help cover the costs associated with redistricting.
