City of Ramsey

15153NOWTHEN BOULEVARD N.W.,RAMSEY, MINNESOTA 55303 · (612) 427-1418

August 2, 1991

M.r. Greg Smith
15250 Iguana Street N.W.
Ramsey, Minnesota 55303

Dear Mr. Smith:

Recently you contacted me regarding the final extension of 153rd Avenue N.W. You had asked
the question whether or not it was proposed that this final leg would be constructed between
Variolite Street N.W. and Armstrong Boulevard N.W. After our phone conversation, I researched
the issue somewhat and found that this roadway extension has been contemplated for some period
of time. Therefore, I have addressed the attached memorandum to the Ramsey City Council for
their information and have it enclosed, herein, for your edification as well.

Certainly, it is the case that this roadway extension has been in the minds of City Council persons
for quite some time. It also appears to me that completion of this east/west route through the
community or a similar east/west route is in the best interest of the community as a whole, l
mention this because completion of Count), Road #116 would achieve a somewhat similar result as
that provided by 153rd Avenue N.W. However, in that #l ]6 is a Count.,,, road, it would require
approval and funding by Anoka County, wherein 153rd Avenue N.W. is being constructed as a
Municipal State Aid roadway to which I believe the funding is already available. Uhimately, it has
been the goal of the City for quite some time to realize the completion of both 1 >:~rd Avenue N.~.
and Count3, Road #116.

I can appreciate .',,our concern for increased traffic th.rough 3'our neighborhood upon completion of
this east/west collector. Further, I would be happy to work with you on any suggestions that you
have to mitigate an,,, negative impacts. However. having now spent some ti'me contemplating this
roadway, I am currentlv of the opinion that it should be completed as contemplated within
Ramsev's Comprehensive Plan. You will note within the attached rnemorandum, however, that
completion of this roadway is something which will be addressed within the next couple of months
during budget deliberations. Therefore, l would suggest that it would be timely for vou to contact
Councilmembers in order to have ,,,our concerns heard.

I appreciate ),our input on this or an,,' other issue which you see impacts you or the community of
Ramsev.

Sincerely,

----Rvan R. Schroefer
City Administrator

RRS/jmt

Enclosure
