February 3rd, 2014
Alyssa Gangl
Little Me Childcare Center 2 Inc.
6013 167th Ave NW
Ramsey, MN 55303
Hello, my name is Alyssa Gangl. I am a preschool teacher at a childcare center located in Ramsey
MN. I am writing this letter in regards to the approval to open an indoor gun range in the building 50
feet away from work. As the lead preschool teacher at Little Me Childcare I am aware that my role is to
not only teach each and every preschooler and help ready them for their future in kindergarten but to
also keep them safe.
I have the following concerns:
1) The safety of the children playing in the outdoor play area which is between the two buildings.
2) We do everything possible to provide the children with a strong sense of safety. Large signs
advertising a shooting range will diminish this sense in not only the children but the staff,
parents, and prospective families as well.
3) Customers having firearms on their person and in their vehicles, is of major concern as well.
Although the Gun Free School Zone Act is not law, Congress and communities felt it was
important to keep guns 1000 feet away at minimum in order to protect our children.
4) The children at our facility are going to hear gunfire at a place that they should feel happy and
safe. At young ages a lot of kids are afraid of police sirens and other loud noises. A shooting
range in such close proximity is going to have an adverse effect on them.
5) I have an overall fear for the safety of the children in our center as well as coworkers and
parents considering the close proximity of the gun range.
The children at our facility are our priority and I feel they should be the city's too. It seems that
there is a safer more isolated area for a shooting range.
