February 6th 2014
Dear City of Ramsey Counsel Members,
My children attend 'Little Me Childcare' in Ramsey, MN. I was disturbed to find out that you were
considering a indoor gun range right next to where my child goes to pre-school/daycare. I wouldn't think
that you guys would think twice about placing a gun range next to a school, so why is a daycare any
different?
As an avid hunter and gun owner, I am all for conceal and carry, people receiving their gun safety and I
am sure once my kids get older, they too will be taking those courses.... Just not next to a daycare
center. We've all seen the videos of gun safety classes being given and a gun accidentally being
discharged. Granted this does not happen often, there is still a risk of it happening. You may think and
pull out statistic of other incidents happening at daycare compared to this gun range, but why add
something more to risk at a daycare center.
My children have been around guns and gun fire, but I am sure there are many out there that have not.
Why should parents have to make their "safe daycare" become scary again if the children hear the
discharge of guns?
Ramsey is a large city and I agree the demand for indoor gun ranges like this is growing and is needed. I
do feel though that there are some better choices of buildings out there rather than the one being
sought out. Placing a gun range next to a daycare center is to me, no different than placing it next to a
school. Please re -think your decisions here and ask yourself if you would be comfortable having a family
member at a center where guns are being discharged next door.
Thank you!
Cassie Oslund
