"
Thank you for expressing the concern and recommendation.
But what protection and safety measures are really fully adequate and work 100% of the time?
Certain items are being designed it, but they don't cover everything.
They don't prevent things from happening for all scenarios, they are just partial improvements.
If there ever is even 1 incident, it will not have been fully adequate or safe.
If there is ongoing concern or feelings of not being safe ... it is not fully adequate or safe.
Just because a small percent of population, the business owner and individuals in this room,
that have gains to be made from the new business ... does not mean there is no concern.
And it definitely does NOT mean it is safe.
There has been concern since this was brought up, on what is adequate or safe enough.
That shows it isn't safe. Just how much safe has been the discussion.
It's unfortunate this has even gotten this far.
Safety is a real issue, and a concern expressed and questioned by many people.
Even a Commissioner, more than one Commissioner.
"Commissioner Nosan appreciated the knowledge and expertise that Mr. Wellman had in his field.
However, it was her opinion that the indoor range would be a better fit in the B-2 zoning district.
She questioned if the indoor shooting would be heard by the adjacent property owners"
Yes, so why isn't it being located in an appropriate B-2 zoning district.
It has already taken special zoning ordinances and draft set of rules to try to improve on the situation.
These are not comprehensive and do NOT fully address the problems introduced by a gun shooting range
and gun shop.
They only address some of the items.
Who is going to fix them to be adequate?
Who is going to fix them to meet what they should, to protect what it is here now.
This shooting gun range and gun shop and gun traffic right next to a school has issues.
Commissioner Nosan:
"She questioned if the indoor shooting would be heard by the adjacent property owners"
Shooting sounds, every day the kids are at school during the day, will be heard.
