Case #11: Discuss Recycling Program

Councilmember Peterson expressed concern with conflicting information that has been distributed
by City Staff and by the recycling provider regarding the types of things that are recyclable and
also the preparation of articles to be recycled. He said neighbors have expressed the desire to
recycle, but they don't want to pla), games.

Mr. Hartley stated that one of the issues of confusion was regarding removing labels from glass.
The recycling service changed the literature so it doesn't have to be removed unless it's loose
already. Mr. Hartley stated one of the biggest conflicts seemed to be what Monday is pick-up day.

Councilmember Cich suggested talking with Jim Gromberg, Project Manager, and getting it
straight.

Councilmember DeLuca stated some people put their recycling container out every Monday
because they don't know which Monday is their day.

Councilmember Peterson stated another big conflict is regarding which plastics are recyclable. Be
feels that definitely needs to be clarified. He's concerned that if the correct information is not
handed out, people will become discouraged and not want to recycle.

Councilmember Cich suggested an article in the Ramsey Resident to clarify the da), of pickup and
also what is recyclable and what preparation needs to be done so it is accepted by the recycling
service.

Councilmember Pearson stated that when he had some items rejected, the recycling provider left a
correction sheet in his bin.

Case #12: Personnel Committee Report

Councilmember Cich stated that Jo Ann Thieling is the new Recording Secretary, there is further
study being done on job descriptions, some issues were tabled and he also stated that he would
give a better report next time.

Mr. Hartley stated that Mr. Donald Johnson accepted the position as Senior Engineer Technician in
salaD., grade 3.5 at an annual salary of $22,642.00.

Motion by Councilmember Cich and seconded by Councilmember Pearson to adopt Resolution
/490-11-349 offering Senior Engineer Technician position to Donald Johnson.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Reimann, Councilmembers Cich, Pearson, DeLuca and
Peterson. Voting No: None.

Mr. Hartley stated there were many options available for health and life insurance providers. The
majority of employees indicated their preference is to stay v~4th LOGIS. The Planning and Zoning
C.o~rmaission also recommended LOGIS.

Motion by Councilmember Peterson and seconded by Councilmember Cich to stay with LOGIS as
the health and life insurance provider.

Motion carried.
