The 10-foot wide paved trail will
connect the new Long Meadow Lake Bridge (Old Cedar Avenue Bridge) to the 1-494
bridge, providing direct pedestrian and bicycle access to the MISS between Dakota and
Hennepin counties. Once completed, visitors from the southern suburbs will have direct
access to the MISS along the Minnesota River. The Big Rivers Regional Trail — Eagan
Segment will complete an off -road 10-foot wide trail from 1-35W in Burnsville to the
downtown Hastings node via St. Paul and the MRT, closing a gap in the MRT network.
The trail will provide partnership opportunities between the Minnesota Valley Wildlife
Refuge, MISS, Fort Snelling State Park and Dakota County, providing connections
between the different land units and a Minnesota River gateway into the MISS. The
ideal schedule for project construction is completion in 2016/17 on the heels of the
completed rehabilitation of the Long Meadow Lake Bridge in 2015 and the completion
of the Black Dog Trail in 2016. Dakota County and MNDNR likely will be partners in
providing local match funding for the project.
ATS Implementation Support
Various
Ben Rasmussen, Volpe Center
$32,500
Volpe's work during this time would focus on:
• Working with partners to update and revise the five-year plan
o Updating the prioritization of projects
o Identifying additional needs and projects
o Matching projects with funding sources available
• Assisting in the development of grants for projects in five-year plan
• Implementing funded projects
• Participating in relevant planning studies conducted by MISS partners
• Organizing and conducting annual pedestrian and bicycle counts
o Summarizing results and identifying trends
• Maintaining and expanding www.rivertripplanner.org
Saint Anthony to East Bank MRT Gap
Minneapolis (Downtown Minneapolis and University of Minnesota nodes)
Shaun Murphy
$1,000,000 (requesting $200,000)
This project would fill an off -road gap of the MRT under the 1-35 bridge between St.
Anthony Main/SE 6th Ave. and Bridge Number 9/East River Road.
