These components are:
• Install sidewalks or a multi -use trail along Minnehaha Park Dr. S. from E. 54th St. to
Coldwater Spring.
• Install sidewalks on both sides of the roads leading to Minnehaha Park Dr. S. from
VA Medical Center Station (Minnehaha Ave. and E. 54th St.).
• Re -paint the crosswalks across E. 54th St. at Minnehaha Ave.
• Stripe bike lanes from VA Medical Center Station to Coldwater Spring.
• Install sidewalks or a multi -use trail along Minnehaha Park Dr. S. from E. 54th St. to
Coldwater Spring.
A portion of the VA property will be transferred to NPS and restored. This property will
expand access to the MISS Coldwater Spring unit.
Project Title:
Location:
Contact:
Cost:
Description:
Project Title:
Location:
Contact:
Cost:
Description:
Tower Ave. Trail Gap
Minneapolis (Fort Snelling node)
Tom Pfannenstiel
$200,000 (requesting $40,000; applied for a FLAP grant to determine engineering needs
and cost estimate)
This project would create a multi -use trail from Tower Ave. to Historic Ft. Snelling.
Currently, the Fort Snelling State Trail terminates at the intersection of Tower Ave. and
Bloomington Rd., as does a sidewalk/path connecting from the center point of the node.
To travel to Historic Ft. Snelling from this intersection, bicyclists and pedestrians must
walk or bicycle on the road with vehicle traffic, and sight -lines along this segment of
Tower Ave. are not very far. The proposed multi -use trail would be located along Tower
Ave. and then cut through the parking lot to the Historic Ft. Snelling Visitor Center.'
ATS Implementation Support
Various
Ben Rasmussen, Volpe Center
$32,500
Volpe's work during this time would focus on:
• Working with partners to update and revise the five-year plan
o Updating the prioritization of projects
o Identifying additional needs and projects
o Matching projects with funding sources available
1 If this project is not feasible due to its cost and/or site constraints, a sidewalk should be constructed, ideally on
both sides of Tower Ave. and bicycle lanes along Tower Ave. and through the parking lot should be striped. If
sidewalks are not feasible, then at a minimum, bicycle lanes should be striped.
January 29, 2014 — Page 11
