Chairperson Max stated that his original idea was for the pickup option to be listed on the pre -
order form for residents to choose themselves.
Board Member Bentz noted that the majority of residents purchasing trees may live closer to one
of the nurseries.
Chairperson Max stated that perhaps some of the trees that will be leftover from the bundles
could be used by the City for an Arbor Day planting.
• Education and Community Awareness Subcommittee
This Subcommittee has not met since the previous Board meeting. It was noted that the
Subcommittee will meet to discuss the contact list created and the recognition program.
• Environmental Expo Subcommittee
Board Member Hiatt stated that because there has been a major shift in the expo format, with the
joining of Happy Days, it was determined that the expo should focus on carrying forward a
similar format to the previous year. He stated that perhaps a goal should be to identify a keynote
speaker and noted that he has reached out to possible speakers. He noted that another discussion
item was to create a draw to bring people in.
Board Member Prendergast stated that the discussion focused on possibly advertising a contest
that children could participate in and would bring families into the booth. She provided an
example she found of a recycled art contest, noting that perhaps the keynote speaker could award
the winner and also noted that perhaps the top five winners could be recognized. She agreed that
there would be categories to divide the age groups, and noted that there could also be an adult
category.
Board Member Lewis advised that the event takes place only a few days into the school year and
noted that the challenge would be marketing to students. He stated that there was also discussion
on broadening the scope to include health and wellness exhibitors that may not view themselves
as environmental, such as the Ramsey bicycle shop.
Chairperson Max noted that Allina could be a good fit for health and wellness benefits.
Board Member Hiatt noted that there are also some local health clubs that could be integrated.
He noted that these items will simply require follow -up by the Subcommittee.
City Planner Anderson noted that Ramsey Bicycle was invited to attend the event, and was
interested, but did not have staff available to attend.
Board Member Prendergast stated that perhaps the EPB could market the expo and the contest in
the July /August edition of the Ramsey Resident.
Board Member Hiatt stated that the Subcommittee could attend the Happy Days planning
meetings.
Environmental Policy Board / February 3, 2014
Page 7 of 8
