This proposed project will build off the TE funded Mississippi River Trail project to be
constructed in 2013 and complete the Mississippi River Trail through the City of Ramsey.
The Mississippi River Trail provides a much needed east -west bicycle and pedestrian route though the
City of Ramsey between the Mississippi River and U.S. Highway 10/169. This portion of the U.S.
Highway 10/169 corridor currently has no facilities on either side of it to accommodate bicycle and
pedestrian travel. In addition, this proposed trail extension will complete the Mississippi River Trail
within Anoka County to its western border with Sherburne County, thereby creating a trail following the
Mississippi River from the City of Minneapolis northwest to the City of Elk River. Ultimately, this trail is
a part of the National Mississippi River Trail that will traverse 3,000 miles through ten states from the
Mississippi headwaters at Lake Itasca in northern Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico. For these reasons, we
feel that the Mississippi River Trail project is an excellent fit for the purpose and vision of the TE funding
program and look forward to the project's inclusion in the program.
Thank you for your consideration of our request. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to give
me a call at 763-238-1733.
Sincerely,
Mark Riverblood
Parks Supervisor
