She stated that the Subcommittee discussed the idea of an environmental <br />essay contest for fourth and fifth graders based on the question "What could Ramsey <br />do to be greener ?" She noted that a flyer could be distributed to the elementary <br />schools around the end of March or April with submissions due to the City by August <br />15 She asked for Board input on what hot topics should be included on the <br />information Board for the EPB booth. She also believed that it would be great to <br />have follow -up information on the rain garden. projects. She stated that perhaps a <br />smaller child sized table could be setup for coloring activities to bring in families. <br />She confirmed that there are bags left from the giveaway last year and stated that the <br />Subcommittee had suggested possibly LED flashlights with the EPB emblem on it for <br />the giveaway this year. She also suggested that the EPB booth be staffed in shifts. <br />• Tree Sale Subcommittee: No report. <br />6. BOARD / STAFF INPUT <br />• Update on EAB and Cold Weather <br />City Planner Anderson referenced the issue of cold weather and the possible effect on emerald <br />ash borer (EAB) and distributed information obtained from a recently held meeting. He stated <br />that although there could be some impact, the best management practices should still be <br />followed. <br />• Reminder of upcoming public meetings <br />City Planner Anderson reminded the Board of the following upcoming meetings: Lake Ramsey <br />Amenities Public Input Meeting on March 13, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Alexander Ramsey Room <br />and the Ramsey 2040 Comprehensive Plan Update Meeting on March 20, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in <br />the Alexander Ramsey Room. <br />• Board Input <br />Chairperson Max stated that he understands the role of the Board to make recommendations to <br />the City Council, but was frustrated with the process that the EPB has gone through time after <br />time. He stated that with the GreenStep Cities program pushback this has been the fourth time <br />that the Board has worked on something that is included on the Work Plan and the Council then <br />acts appalled that the Board spent time working on the item. He stated that he is taking these <br />things personally and explained that because of that, he will be resigning as of tonight. <br />Board Member Lewis stated that he would be sorry for the loss to the EPB and the City with <br />Chairperson Max leaving. <br />Council Liaison LeTourneau stated that he would simply be processing this information and did <br />not want to instantly react. He expressed sadness that Chairperson Max will be resigning and <br />noted that he would be willing to meet and talk with Chairperson Max to further discuss the <br />matter. <br />Environmental Policy Board / March 3, 2014 <br />Page 7 of 8 <br />
