February 25, 2014 I Volume 8 I Issue 4 Zoning Bulletin
Zoning ews from Around the
Nation
GEORGIA
State Representative Kevin Tanner reportedly plans to introduce legisla-
tion that "would require those seeking sludge application permits to go
before the respective city or county governments and show they are in
compliance with their land use ordinances or zoning requirements."
Source: Dawson News; www.dawsonnews.com
ILLINOIS
Boone County leaders recently rejected a proposed zoning amendment
that reportedly would have significantly limited where wind turbines can be
placed. The proposed amendment would have increased the minimum
setback distance to equal three times a tower's height from property lines.
The zoning code now remains unchanged, with 1,000 foot setbacks from
primary structures.
Source: Rockford Register Star; www.rrstar.com
WASHINGTON
Under a newly proposed marijuana bill in the State House, cities and
counties would be required to cooperate with state regulators in allowing
licensed recreational marijuana gardens, processing facilities, and stores
within their jurisdictions —with failure to cooperate resulting in a loss of
shared disbursements from the state liquor -license account. Accordingly,
municipalities would be prohibited from implementing zoning regulations
or other regulations such as moratoriums, which could affect marijuana
businesses.
Another proposed measure would alternatively aim to "entice" munici-
palities to allow marijuana businesses by giving them a share in revenue
generated by retail marijuana sales. -
Sources: KVEW TV; www.kvewtv.com; Seattle Post Intelligence a; www.
blog.seattlepi.com
12 © 2014 Thomson Reuters
