City of Ramsey 2030 Comprehensive Plan <br />Appendix A: Community Background <br />Ramsey Town Center as a location for younger households in need of affordable housing with good <br />access to employment. <br />It was noted previously that Ramsey has shifted its development pattern from almost entirely detached <br />single-family homes to a much higher proportion of attached or multifamily housing. For a span of <br />several years during the early 2000s, two attached units were built for every one detached unit. Rental housing will continue to be an <br />important component to the housing market as a critical mass of the population in Ramsey and <br />surrounding communities becomes age 65 or older and begins to desire low maintenance housing. In <br />addition, emerging employment centers along Highway 10 and the accessibility created by the Northstar <br />Commuter Line will increase the overall demand for rental housing in the northwest sector of the metro <br />area. <br />As developable land becomes more scarce throughout the 2010s in Ramsey pressure will mount for the <br />remaining land to be developed at higher densities (Figure 3-19). Furthermore, demographic trends <br />indicating strong growth among older age groups will add additional pressure to develop new homes as <br />multifamily product that requires lower maintenance than single-family product. <br />City of Ramsey 2030 Comprehensive Plan Appendix A-25 <br />
