City of Ramsey 2030 Comprehensive Plan
Appendix A: Community Background
project will correct both of these conditions and consists of road and storm sewer to develop the
six acres of commercial property east of the existing Rivlyn Ave. NW and south of Highway 10.
Variolite Street (Alpine Dr. to Ramsey Town Center)
Variolite Street is a 2 1/4 mile long north/south collector roadway, and its extension south of
Alpine Drive will provide direct access for the northwestern portion of the City to Ramsey Town
Center. The extension is through the Hanson Tree Farm and uses the existing right-of-way of
Uranimite Street between 192' Lane and 149th Avenue. This project requires both property and
right-of-way acquisition.
167th Avenue Extension
The extension of 167th Avenue represents an east -west collector street through the center of the
City and the nearest alternative collector on arterial routes is Green Valley Road (CR #63) which
is one mile north and Alpine Drive which is 1 1/2 miles south. The extension of 167th Avenue as a
MSA collector street from Jaspar Street to Armstrong Boulevard will occur in three phases.
157th Avenue to 157th Lane Connection
This project will construct approximately 200 feet of connecting roadway at 157th Lane, east of
Ramsey Boulevard, to 1571 Avenue located in the High Point subdivision, and thereby
eliminating a 2,200 foot dead end of 157th Lane.
County Road 5/Alpine Drive Realignment
This project addresses the intersection alignment of Alpine Drive with CSAH 5 and modifies the
access to Old County Road 5 by eliminating one or both of the existing accesses from CSAH 5 to
achieve the desired intersection spacing deemed appropriate for Minor A arterial roadways. The
intersection realignment will improve safety at this key intersection; an interim four-way stop
will be installed by the County until the improvements are complete.
Single Road Access Areas
Within the City, there are over 30 locations which rely on a single access point to serve
neighborhoods greater than the allowable 600 foot cul-de-sac. This project will greatly enhance
public safety by providing alternate accesses for residential neighborhoods formerly relying on
single point accesses. This also increases interconnectedness between adjacent neighborhoods.
Trunk Highway 47
The Trunk Highway 47 Corridor is a major north -south artery running through the City of
Ramsey and provides interregional mobility as well as local community access. In an effort to
alleviate congestion and increase safety the TH 47 Transportation Analysis will recommend
solutions to improve traffic mobility and improve safety while limiting environmental impacts
and complementing community goals. The project study area will include the evaluating the
capacity and safety of other north -south routes. It will then develop a set of comprehensive
recommendations that will address immediate and future needs and improvements.
City of Ramsey 2030 Comprehensive Plan Appendix A-49
