that there will be increasing demand for improved water quality regarding Iron <br />and Manganese levels. In addition, due to significant increases in the water <br />supply demands, surface water sources will need to be evaluated to meet the <br />City's water needs. A water treatment facility would be required to treat surface <br />water sources. Due to the large number of wells which would be required to meet <br />the future system supply needs, the current system of multiple chemical feed <br />points may result in water quality inconsistency across the system. Also, multiple <br />feed points will represent a substantial security risk to the system. Construction of <br />treatment facilities will be considered in Section 5 — Water Supply and Treatment. <br />D. STORAGE <br />1. Adequate storage permits a reduction in the size of pumps <br />required to supply a community because peak demands are diminished by the reserves provided <br />by the storage. The other reasons for providing storage include: <br />• Fire protection <br />• Emergency requirements (pump failures, power failures, etc.) <br />• To equalize pressure in the distribution system <br />2. Evaluation of Water Storage Capacity <br />Storage adequacy can be assessed using the Average Day Criteria or the Maximum Day, <br />Fire Protection and Emergency Storages Criteria.
