1lEr
Anoka County Parks and Recreation
550 Bunker Lake Boulevard NW, Andover, MN 55304
July 12, 2011
Kevin Roggenbuck
Transportation Advisory Board
390 North Robert Street
Saint Paul, Minnesota 55101
Re: Letter of Support —Transportation Enhancement request
Mississippi River Trail — Red River Ox Cart Route
Dear Mr. Roggenbuck:
On behalf of the Anoka County Parks and Recreation Department, I am pleased to offer this
letter of support for the City of Ramsey's proposed Mississippi River Trail Connection Project.
The Mississippi River Trail (MRT) is part of the regional trail system in Anoka County. Nationally,
the MRT links Minnesota and the headwaters of the Mississippi River to New Orleans, LA and
the Gulf of Mexico. Regionally, the MRT links Anoka County to Dakota County and the City of Elk
River to the City of Hastings through the 72-mile Mississippi National River Recreation Area.
The proposed project will link the trails in Elk River, Ramsey and Sherburne County with trails in
Anoka County. The project will provide an important link in the multi -modal transportation
system in the City of Ramsey. This connection will also improve access and safety to residential
areas, business districts and recreation and open space opportunities. And, it will encourage
residents in the area to bicycle or walk to local and regional destinations.
Anoka County is planning to commit $300,000 to supplement this transportation enhancement
request, through the development of connecting trails and observation areas at Mississippi
West Regional Park.
If u have any questions regarding this matter, please feel free to call or e-mail me at
7 767.2860 or at john.vondelinde@co.anoka.mn.us.
e re ly,
ohn VonDeLinde
Director of Parks and Recreation
Cc: Commissioner Matt Look
Karen Blaska, Park Planner/Landscape Architect
Phone: 763.757.3920
OPEN SPACES IN NEARBY PLACES
www.anokacountyparks.com
Fax: 763.755.0230
MRT - Ramsey's National & Regional Extension
Appendix 4, Page 4
