SECTION 3 DEFINITIONS <br />Casual Employee — Temporarvt-eniper-eff employees who periodically work "special projects" for <br />the City such as the Pet Clinic, Elections and Happy Days. This classification includes, but may not <br />be limited to. Rink Attendants, -ate Snow Plow Drivers. and other employees workine less than 14 <br />hours per week.. <br />Demotion -The movement of an employee from one iob class to another within the City. where the <br />maximum salary for the new position is lower than that of the employee's former position. <br />Direct Deposit -As permitted by state law. all City employees are required to participate in direct <br />deposit. <br />Employee - An individual who has successfully completed all staees of the selection process <br />includine the trainine period. <br />Exempt- Employee — Any employee excluded from overtime and compensatory time off provisions — - - -f Formatted: Right: -0.01" <br />of the Minnesota and federal Fair Labor Standards Act ("FLSA"). Non -Exempt Employee — <br />Employees who are covered by the federal or state Fair Labor Standards Act. Such employees are <br />normally elieible for overtime pay or compensatory time off at 1.5 times their reeular hourly wane <br />for all hours worked over forty (40) in any riven workweek.Fodoral Fair Labor Standards Act <br />(FLSA). <br />- - f Formatted: Indent: First line: 0" <br />FICA (Federal Insurance Contributions Act) - FICA is the federal requirement that a certain <br />amount be automatically withheld from employees' earninas. Specifically, FICA requires an <br />employee contribute a percentage for Social Security and for Medicare. The City contributes a <br />matching percentaae on behalf of each employee. Certain employees are exempt or partially <br />exempt from these withholdings (e.a.. police officers). <br />Fiscal Year -The period from January 1 to December 31. <br />Full-time Employee - Employees who are required to work forty (40) or more hours per week year- <br />round in an onaoina position. In accordance with federal health care reform laws and regulations, <br />the City shall offer health insurance benefits to elieible employees and their dependents that work <br />on averane or are expected to work 30 or more hours per week or the equivalent of 130 hours or <br />more per month. In order to comply with Health Care Reform law while avoiding penalties. part- <br />time employees will be scheduled with business needs and in manner which ensures positions retain <br />part-time status under which intended. <br />Hours of Operation - City Hall's hours of operation are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to <br />4:30 p.m. <br />Part-time Employee - Employees who are required to work less than forty (40) hours per week <br />year-round in an oneoine position.
