I did want to take a moment to submit a few comments as suggested. Previously when I attended the meeting, my intention was to vote against the request only due to the fact I felt the land was not adequate enough to properly take care of the extra animals. It was during the meeting when the resident at 5520 140th Lane NW began speaking about his sons and whether or not there were pit bulls at the residence. This is when I challenged the legitimacy of the request. In his statement, he said that within the last 8-10 years, there has been no pit bulls at their residence. I have lived in my home for the last 6 years. In that time, I have seen (as well as my husband and neighbors) signs at the entrance of Germanium Street and Bunker Lake Road on two separate occasions advertising pit bull puppies for sale. It is my belief, that this request is being made in addition to be able to care of their families dogs but also to breed pit bull dogs. For this reason, again, I must stress I am very much against the household being able to have this type of permit. Following the meeting in August, it was made known to me that one of their pit bulls also bit one of the neighbors in the neighborhood. This is a concern as a parent that older dogs would be able to jump the small three foot chain link fence (as indicated from exhibit B) and could cause harm to others. From the letter received, it is my understanding that the residents would be allowed to have four (4) permanent dogs and an additional family dog watched on a regular basis. The permit would also allow for seven (7) additional dogs at any given time. My question is at this point, who would police the number of dogs and how long are the extra seven (7) dogs allowed to be on the property? Until this question is resolved, it does not makes sense to approve the request. The dog area plotted in the letter (exhibit B) also does not seem large enough to accommodate up to this many animals. I believe by granting the request to the extra dogs, it would be very difficult to retract when safety concerns are brought forth by neighbors. For this reason, it is in the best interest of the residence, neighbors, and community not to approve this request. i
