A union representative made a presentation that pipelines are a very safe way to transport oil and <br />that the members he represents take great pride in producing infrastructure that is safe and <br />dependable. <br />A Canadian representative spoke on the international impact of trade, with MN being one of the <br />highest in the US. <br />A representative of the MN Pollution Control Agency spoke and showed stats of how fewer spills <br />and accidents there have been since 1971. Also shared that MN uses about 20% less petroleum <br />products now as 10 years ago. <br />A Representative of Association of Oil Pipe Lines (AOPL) spoke on the advantages of pipe lines <br />vs rail transportation, citing MN has over 4000 miles of pipeline. <br />Two MN Representatives spoke (on opposite sides of issue) of the on -going effort to further <br />regulate RR and Pipe Line transportation of crude oil. <br />The Commissioner of Public Safety spoke of the need for all parties to continue to talk rather than <br />act as individual silos. Also spoke of some of the efforts by the Governor recently to push for <br />safer rail transportation. <br />The Commissioner of the MN Pollution Control Agency made the final presentation stressing the <br />need for emergency responders to have basic knowledge of rail transportation and response <br />criteria. Also stressed the need for all involved parties to continue to discuss how to make <br />transportation as safe as possible. He did refer to the number of accidents involving derailed trains <br />has gone down significantly in past several years. <br />Save the Date: <br />• Elmcrest Park Community Building Dedication. Friday, October 3, 2014, 4:35 pm, <br />Elmcrest Park, Ramsey. An event to celebrate the community's collaboration in bringing <br />a new, and much needed facility to Ramsey. The festivity is anticipated to be <br />approximately one hour as there are a lot of preparations associated with the State <br />Tournament the following morning!
