He stated he would not want to pass up this opportunity
to educate Ramsey's residents relating to the training available.
Mr. Hoffman explained why people are afraid to provide CPR.
Officer Platz agreed and stated that the training will help them to overcome that fear.
Mr. Hoffman described the training provided at the Lino Lakes Correctional Facility and positive
response received.
Officer Platz stated their goal is to make Mr. Hoffman the norm, not the exception.
Councilmember Kuzma asked Mr. Hoffman and Officer Platz if they would be part of the
training program in Ramsey.
Officer Platz answered in the affirmative and described how they would offer assistance, noting
that Coon Rapids received its certification within one year.
Councilmember Kuzma stated his support to pursue this Program.
Mr. Hoffman stated he is part of the Minnesota Survivor's Network that conducts training
sessions.
Officer Platz advised of options for fundraising events and described the positive reflection on
communities that become certified. He stated that Mr. Hoffman's story will be featured by
WCCO in the near future.
Councilmember LeTourneau stated it would be difficult to turn away and go a different
direction, noting the Council will need to address the need for resources. He recognized the
many local organizations that contributed to this effort and agreed that with local support, this
will be a win for Ramsey.
Officer Platz stated he had looked at ways for Coon Rapids to support this initiative without a
large financial contribution by taking advantage of tools that already exist, such as a mapping
program to identify the location of AEDs and adding a question relating to AED availability to
the business inspection questionnaire.
City Administrator Ulrich stated the AED at the Ramsey Municipal Center was provided by the
Ramsey Lions.
Mayor Strommen stated the Council has voiced its support to move forward with this Program
and asked staff to report on the need for and availability of public services.
