Raceway's races. He noted the information provided to the Council relating to the informal
noise study conducted by the Police Department.
Carl Janzen, Ramsey Raceway, stated they have looked into a lot of different sites the past few
weeks but most do not make financial sense. He stated they have talked to the owner of the 7
acre former paintball site and are just learning whether that would be a suitable location. He
stated financially and considering the size of the site, it appears to be feasible. Mr. Janzen asked
whether that location would be acceptable to the Council.
Mayor Strommen noted this is a pre- application phase and informal question being asked
whether this is a suitable location.
Councilmember Backous stated he found the former paintball site to be a perfect site as it is
located away from residential homes, it has adequate exposure, and he hoped they could work
out a financially feasible deal with the property owner.
Mr. Janzen described how vehicles would access the proposed site.
Councilmember Backous asked that the post on Ramsey Raceway's Facebook page be entered
into the record as follows:
Attention!!!!
We need your help!!!! We have been approved for a new site for our race track by Anoka
County, but the Ramsey city council is not in favor of the move!! They think that a go -kart track
in RAMSEY IS NOT THE RIGHT THING FOR THEIR CITY. We need to persuade the council
and Mayor of Ramsey to change their minds!! We need to inundate them with e -mails and phone
calls. Please help keep go -cart racing close to home. PLEASE SEND E -MAILS AND MAKE
PHONE CALLS TO THE Mayor, council members and city administrator'' tuff I
www.cLramsey.mn.us/ramsev.city.council
Kurt Ulrich city administrator kulrich@ci.ramsey.mn.us 763 - 433 -9845
Patrick Brama city assistant administrator pbrama@cityoframsey.com 763 - 433 -9896
PLEASE HELP!!!
THE MORE THE BETTER!!!!
Councilmember Backous took exception to this Facebook posting, noting the City's staff has
more important work than to answer phone calls on information that is misleading, noting no one
has ever said that Ramsey Raceway is not the right thing for the City. He expressed his
disappointment that this had been posted by Ramsey Raceway.
Mayor Strommen stated she did have a conversation with Mr. Janzen about that posting and
agreed the conversation should focus on what would be the best location.
City Council Work Session / September 9, 2014
Page 2 of 9
