Industries - Stated that as a homeowner and businessman
in Ramsey, he thinks that industry feels comfortable locating adjacent to
airports rather than residential development.

Councilm~ber $chlueter explained that the Airport Commission is currently
preparing a major airport study and until that study is completed, Council
won' t know the costs involved and whether or not industry will come in because
of the airport.

Councilm~mber Cox stated that there are some interesting comments in Airport
Commission meeting minutes. The minutes indicate that one of the
commissioners inquired as to how many airport operations are required to
support the facility. That Airport Commission, including that particular
commissioner, voted to spend $40,000 on a study.

Councilme~ber COx noted that the study is-e~s~in~~8~O0. .~ ~

Councilme~ber COx replied that the study is costing somebody $40,000.
Councilme~ber Cox continued that the same commissioner, who is also chairman
of the Charter Commission, stated that there will be more revenue generated by
business aircraft than recreational aircraft; that commissioner also stated
that the odds are against Ramsey because Ramsey is not a population center,
not accessible to freeways and is on the wrong side of the Mississippi.
Councilm~mber COx inquired if an airport should be placed in a population
center or should it be placed prior to population concentration; Councilm~mber
Cox noted that Gateway was placed prior to any population. Councilm~mber Cox
stated that this same Airport Co~mission m~ber stated in the minutes that the
airport could bring in industry that would have the potential for
contamination considering Ramsey's high water table. Councilm~ber COx
pointed out that the airport is located at the south end of the community,
March 26, 1985
