FINANCE COMMITTEE <br />CITY OF RAMSEY <br />ANOKA COUNTY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />The Ramsey Finance Committee conducted a regular meeting on Tuesday, November 25, 2003, <br />at Fire Station No. 1, 15050 Armstrong Boulevard NW, Ramsey, Mim~esota. <br /> <br />Members Present: <br /> <br />Chair Councilmember David Elvig <br />Councilmember Sarah Strommen <br />Councilmember Gerald Zimmerman <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />City Administrator James E. Norman <br />Finance Officer Diana Lund <br />Fire Chief/Director of Public Works Dean Kapler <br />Police Chief James Way <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />Councilmember Elvig called the regular meeting of the Finance Committee to order at 6:07 p.m. <br /> <br />APPROVE AGENDA <br /> <br />Councihnember Elvig requested switching the discussion of Cases 1 and 2 to which the <br />Committee agreed. <br /> <br />COMMITTEE BUSINESS <br /> <br />Case #2: Replacement of Laptop Computers for Squad Cars <br /> <br />Finance Officer Lund explained that the Police Department currently utilizes six Panasonic CF- <br />27 Tough Book laptop computers which are outdated and in need of replacement. The systems <br />are very slow and do not allow full use of the currently available technology. Staff is requesting <br />permission to purchase seven Panasonic CF-50 laptop computers to replace the six and add one <br />unit. Staff is also requesting funding for the necessary squad docking stations and accessories. <br />Ms. Lund reported there is sufficient depreciation money in the equipment replacement fund to <br />cover this expense. Staff is asking for an amount not to exceed $15,176. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued regarding the differences between the new models and the current. It was <br />stated that the Building Department may be able to make use of the old computers if the screens <br />can be changed out. If they are not going to be used, the computers can be declared surplus <br />property and a sealed bid process would be done. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Zimmerman and seconded by Councilmember Strommen to <br />recommend that City Council adopt the resolution authorizing the purchase of seven Panasonic <br />CF-50 laptop computers and the required docking stations/accessories from Government <br /> <br />Finance Committee/November 25, 2003 <br /> Page 1 of 5 <br /> <br /> <br />
