School District is saving by not having to support more facilities in <br />Ramsey and should be happy to contribute more than $12,000. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Cox and seconded by Councilmember Sorteberg to <br />table a decision regarding the request for participation in the cost of <br />replacing playground equipment at Ramsey Elementary School until the <br />special Council meeting scheduled for June 9. During the interim, City <br />Council and City Staff are to meet with Anoka-Hennepin School District #11 <br />regarding their level of participation in the improvements. <br /> <br />Further Discussion. A resident stated that her son raised $50 to be used <br />towards the purchase of park equipment; this coming school year will be his <br />last year at Ramsey Elementary and she hopes the improvements are made in <br />time for him to derive some benefit from them. Councilmember Cox replied <br />that City Council has the responsibility to see that the citizens are <br />getting their fair share of tax dollars back into the community. <br />Councilmember Sorteberg stated that tonight is the first time Council has <br />been contacted regarding the request; keeping Council informed during the 2- <br />3 year planning stage might have resulted in quicker action on Council's <br />part. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Reimann, Councilmembers Sorteberg, Cox, <br />DeLuca and Pearson. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />~ ~ey Communicator Program Concept Approval: <br /> <br />-and- <br /> <br />Case #13: Review Ramsey Community School Plans And Budget: <br /> <br />Police Chief Auspos was present and stated that if Ramsey had a Key <br />Communicator program in place, tonight's issues of Northfork and Hwy. #47 <br />alignments could have been avoided or handled with much less of a problem. <br />The program is a communication network between the citizens and the city <br />and key communicators are volunteers who act as liaison between the persons <br />in their neighborhood, local government and the police. <br /> <br />Andover Key Communicator and Community Education Director, Melanie <br />DeLuca, was present to relay to City Council the success of the key <br />communicator program in Andover and how it has helped the city to establish <br />a sense of identity. <br /> <br />Mayor Reimann stated that the extra labor and time involved in having a key <br />communicator program has to be reviewed by the City's budget committee. <br /> <br />Anoka Community Education Director, Dennis Carlson, was present, and noted <br />that 75% of Sandburg's enrollment is Ramsey children and there is a need to <br />expand that school's community education department. It is being proposed <br />to hire a person to assist and expand the community education program, <br />thereby freeing up some of Ramsey Community Education Director, Claudia <br />Dodge's time to head up a key communicator program. <br /> <br />Claudia Dodge stated that an initial $2000 is being requested to get the <br />key communicator program under way by July 1. <br /> <br />City Council/May 26, 1987 <br /> <br />Page 19 of 21 <br /> <br /> <br />
