h. Street Trees

Ms. Frolik noted that during an all-staff review of the proposed Village of Sunfish Lake, the
issue of street trees came up. Concerns were expressed with mature trees heaving sidewalks; low
canopies needing routine pruning to allow easy passage of high vehicles and not obstruct
curbside parking.

The response was that if boulevards are at least 6 feet wide, there shouldn't be a problem with
raising and breaking up sidewalks. There are tree species that have high canopies.

ACTION ITEMS RESULTING FROM MEETING

Ms. Strommen said that she would call the League of Conservation Voters and see if
Ramsey's tree booklet is a qualifying project for their grant.

· Mr. McDilda and Mr. Max to place "Review Of The Draft Tree Preservation Ordinance" on
the February 3, 2002, Task Force meeting agenda.

All task force members, City staff and Park Commission liaisons should review the
ordinance draft and be prepared to submit suggestions for amendments at the February 3
meeting of the Task Force.

· Mr. Max should complete the canopy cover formula and present it at the February 3 meeting
for insertion into the draft ordinance.

· Task Force members should be prepared to work on the ordinance Saturday, February 8, if
good progress is not realized on February 3.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Committee Member Max and seconded by Committee Member Sitz to adjourn the
meeting.

Motion carried.
