LS, A Design proposed the ~xparmion <br />of the bridge to allow the construction of <br />passenger wamng areas on both sides and <br />add bus pullover lan~. Thru design did <br />not require the acquisiuon of property for <br />the passenger tem'nnab. Locating the pro- <br />~ect on the bridge placed it in the perfect <br />location to connect to the future busway/ <br />light-raft and trolley line. A mimmum <br />amount of land was acqmred to accommo- <br />date a bus transfer area, which was s~ted <br />adjacent to the rail line and took advan- <br /> <br />tape of acc~s right-of-way to minimize <br />acquismon of viable properM <br /> Uptown Transit Station has succeeded <br />in concentrating trarmlt se?,qces, proxqding <br />climate controlled passenger space, and <br />investing in transit improvemenu that will <br />support multiple uses. All of this was <br />accomplished in a txigh-dermity area w~th' <br />no dtsrupuon to e_,msting businesses. <br /> <br />Summary <br />Hubbard Marketo[ace and Uptown Transit <br />Station both began as projects with what <br />seemed like opposing goals and extreme <br /> <br />site limitauons. By taking the dme to under- <br />stand the goals of all parties and absotute <br />requiremen= for the transit service and <br />facility, L~A Design was able to locate and <br />design projecm that were embraced by all. <br />Ever',/one felt ~at the), had been heard, <br />had been involved tn the decisions and <br />had been used for ~heir ex'pertt~e.
