CITY OF RAMSEY
Description of Community Programs and Donations
Happy Days
This is a city -sponsored community festival held every September. The purpose of the event is to
promote a connected community. Events include: pancake breakfast, 5K run, youth run, family bike
tour, wellness van, bean bag tournament, car show, multiple expos, parade, live music and dancing,
bingo, Fire Dept. chili cook -off, fireworks, and kids activities.
Holiday Party
The city sponsors an annual holiday party to recognize city personnel and commissioners. This event
promotes employee comradery and retention as well as acknowledges volunteer board commissioners
for their service to the community.
Employee Appreciation Events (2 per year)
The city hosts two internal employee appreciation events per year, a spring breakfast and fall luncheon.
The purpose of these events is to formally recognize milestone anniversary, promote employee
comradery, retention, communication, and progress towards the strategic plan.
Safety Camp
The goal of this program is to teach children to be safe. Approximately 120 children attend each year.
Nite to Unite
Promotes safe neighborhoods and a safe community. Approximately 1,400-1,500 attend parties.
Fire Station Open House
The fire department open house concludes a week of fire prevention activity including visits to daycares
and schools. The purpose of the open house is to provide education on safe fire practices to both adults
and children. The Fire Department also has demonstrations to show the abilities of the firefighters and
the equipment that is used.
Recycling Days
Two Recycling Days are held per year, one in the spring and one in the fall. Each event serves
approximately 250 vehicles. These events provide residents and small businesses an opportunity to
conveniently dispose of a wide variety of materials that are generally not collected as part of the
curbside recycling program such as appliances, electronics, fluorescent bulbs, various battery types,
tires, mattresses/boxsprings, used oil, antifreeze and oil filters, document shredding, scrap metal and
standard recyclables (curbside materials).
Tree Sale
This program provides residents opportunity to purchase bareroot trees at wholesale prices and helps
encourage tree planting and maintenance. This also serves as an opportunity to educate residents on
species that are typically native and/or perform well in Ramsey as well as provide instruction on proper
tree planting methods (invaluable for long term success of the trees). The City does not generate any
revenue from this event, the wholesale prices are passed on to residents.
Page 5
