CITY OF RAMSEY <br />Description of Community Programs and Donations <br />Happy Days <br />This is a city -sponsored community festival held every September. The purpose of the event is to <br />promote a connected community. Events include: pancake breakfast, 5K run, youth run, family bike <br />tour, wellness van, bean bag tournament, car show, multiple expos, parade, live music and dancing, <br />bingo, Fire Dept. chili cook -off, fireworks, and kids activities. <br />Holiday Party <br />The city sponsors an annual holiday party to recognize city personnel and commissioners. This event <br />promotes employee comradery and retention as well as acknowledges volunteer board commissioners <br />for their service to the community. <br />Employee Appreciation Events (2 per year) <br />The city hosts two internal employee appreciation events per year, a spring breakfast and fall luncheon. <br />The purpose of these events is to formally recognize milestone anniversary, promote employee <br />comradery, retention, communication, and progress towards the strategic plan. <br />Safety Camp <br />The goal of this program is to teach children to be safe. Approximately 120 children attend each year. <br />Nite to Unite <br />Promotes safe neighborhoods and a safe community. Approximately 1,400-1,500 attend parties. <br />Fire Station Open House <br />The fire department open house concludes a week of fire prevention activity including visits to daycares <br />and schools. The purpose of the open house is to provide education on safe fire practices to both adults <br />and children. The Fire Department also has demonstrations to show the abilities of the firefighters and <br />the equipment that is used. <br />Recycling Days <br />Two Recycling Days are held per year, one in the spring and one in the fall. Each event serves <br />approximately 250 vehicles. These events provide residents and small businesses an opportunity to <br />conveniently dispose of a wide variety of materials that are generally not collected as part of the <br />curbside recycling program such as appliances, electronics, fluorescent bulbs, various battery types, <br />tires, mattresses/boxsprings, used oil, antifreeze and oil filters, document shredding, scrap metal and <br />standard recyclables (curbside materials). <br />Tree Sale <br />This program provides residents opportunity to purchase bareroot trees at wholesale prices and helps <br />encourage tree planting and maintenance. This also serves as an opportunity to educate residents on <br />species that are typically native and/or perform well in Ramsey as well as provide instruction on proper <br />tree planting methods (invaluable for long term success of the trees). The City does not generate any <br />revenue from this event, the wholesale prices are passed on to residents. <br />Page 5 <br />
