COUNCIL BUSINESS

Case #1: Emergency Management

Police Chief Way explained that the City received a grant through Anoka County to update the
City's Emergency Management Plan. He and the Fire Chief have been working to update the
City's current plan. He explained that it is necessary to establish a City emergency management
organization re~sponsible for City planning and preparation for emergency government operations
in times of disasters, to provide for the exercise of necessary powers during emergencies and
disasters, and to provide for the rendering of mutual aid between this City and other political
subdivisions of this State and of other states with respect to the carrying out of emergency
preparedness functions. Staff recommended the introduction of an Emergency Management
ordinance to ensure the City's preparedness in time of disaster.

Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler stated that he was very proud of the process they are
using because it is a multi-agency approach for the City.
