Inc.; <br /> <br />Mr. Wes Alden was present representing Arrigoni, Inc. and stated that the <br />proceeds from their gambling operation at J.R.'s Saloon are used to support <br />two half-way houses in Minneapolis and St. Paul for the chemically <br />dependent. Anoka County has no such facilities and a major portion of the <br />persons serviced at these homes are residents of A~oka County. Azrigoni is <br />in the process of purchasing property in Anoka County on which to develop a <br />hal f-way home. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember $orteberg and seconded by Councilmember Pearson to <br />approve the renewal of the charitable gambling license for Azrigoni, Inc. <br /> <br />Further Discussion: M~yor Reimann inquired as to the amount of revenue <br />Arrigoni takes in with their gambling operation. Mr. Alden stated that he <br />would have the organization's auditor provide those records. Mr. James <br />Gilbertson stated that the Jaycees and Lions have raised sufficient money <br />for park development with their gambling operations; there is a real need <br />to raise money for care of the chemically dependent. Mr. Alden stated that <br />Arrigoni gets people well enough so they can join the Jaycees and Lions; <br />Anoka County has not facilities to do this. Mayor Reimann stated that he <br />would like to see money spent on gambling in Ramsey returned to Ramsey. <br />Mr. Alden reiterated that the half-way houses provide treatment for <br />chemically dependent Ramsey residents. <br /> <br />Motion failed. Voting <br />No: Mayor Reimann and Councilmember DeLuca. <br /> <br />Councilmember DeLuca agreed that as much money as possible should be kept <br />in Ramsey; he would like to see money spent to abate chemical dependency <br />before it becomes a problem. <br /> <br />Wes Alden stated that local businessman should have some say in which <br />gambling operation they choose to locate in their facility.
