Case #6' Burning Permits The recreational burning permits were discussed and Chief Griffin feels that the City needs a well- defined ordinance to include the size of the recreational fire and the penalties that would be enforced if a violation occurs. Pollution control would also have to be considered, it was decided that sample ordinances would be obtained from other cities to get some idea as to how the3, handle rccrcation',tl burning permits. Case #7: Distribution of Fire Department Application for Membership Requirements (Requirements and expectations for new members) - and - Case #8: Distribution of Fire Department Membership By-laws (By-laws that were accepted by the Fire Department members) Fire Chief Griffin explained that the information presented will be handed out to each new applicant. The application was a joint effort between the Fire Chief and the Personnel Coordinator with a lot of information from other cities. The questions are all legal but the>, are strictly questions for applicants for the Fire Department. it was suggested that Page 3, Personal, be amended to read "gross misdemeanor or felon,-,,". Chief Griffin volunteered to check into the type of licenses needed and also if a defensive driving course would reduce insurance. Section 16, Election of Officers, Page 12, should be amended to "Fire Inspector". Councilmembcr Cich stated he wanted time to review the information presented and a chance to make changes; if necessary. Boardmember Pearson commented on how impressed he is with the Fire Department and expressed his wish that the rest of the Board and City Council would attend a Department meeting. Chairman Peterson felt that the City Council should be kept welt-informed of the policies dealing with the Fire Department. Nits. Helling commented that it is good for historical purposes to have a policy. Chief Griffin explained that this is the policy the Department is operating on right nov,,. Case 89' Fire Department Response on Personal Injuries Chief Griffin explained that the Department has a vehicle and equipment necessa_D., to respond to car accidents and lend assistance to the ambulance people. He stared he would like to see the Fire Fighters receive more medical training. Chairman Peterson stated he felt it would be a waste of time for the Department to respond to eveu, "stubbed toe". Board.member Pearson stated that Chief Griffin is basically taiking about rescue. Councilmember Cich suggested that the Department work on the planning end of this issue and not to go past the planning stage at this point. He felt the on-call rescue that the Department is doing right now is well within its perimeters, but it takes more than a couple of vears to rea/ly get into the rescue/medici end of it.
