CASE ~3~I Ramsay Fire Department Relief Association By-Laws <br /> <br />Mr. GooQ~lch explained the Fire Board has recommenOeO Council <br />approval ioflthelr By-Laws for the Relief Association. There is no <br />requirement that they be approved prior to December 31, 1990, as <br />any state funds available for 1991 would be deposited with the City <br />and turned over to the Relief Association once the By-Laws are in <br />place. <br /> <br />Councllmember Clch stated many of his questlons were answered when <br />he met with the Fire Board. At this time he had no problem with <br />the proposal, though there has been some indications by the <br />Councllm~nbers-Elect that they would like to look at this. He <br />recommended~the Item be tabled to allow the next Council to <br />consider it. <br /> <br />MOTION bY Cich, Seconded by DeLuca, to so move. FURTHER <br />DISCUSSION: Councllmember DeLuca felt some terms could De more <br />clearly'defined, such as "pensioneer" and "vested". Attorney <br />Goo~rlch ifelt that is a good point. He also noted that any changes <br />to these ~By-Laws In the future would be made Dy a 2/3 vote of the <br />membership, not by the Council. <br /> <br />To~ Hoxter. iRamsev Fire Department - stated they are anxious to <br />get this lltem finished as soon as possible to begin moving on; and <br />he didn'f see any reason why this should be tab]ed because the new <br />Council bias seen it. Counci]member Cich felt the new Council <br />should have Some input on the matter. He felt this is too <br />importan~ to rush through, not wanting to make a mistake that wi]] <br />lose benefits later on. Councilmember Pearson pointed out the Fire <br />Board me~ and did recommended that the Council adopt the By-Laws. <br />Councllmember Cich recommended the matter be placed on the January <br />22, 1991,i~ Council Agenda. <br /> <br />VOTE ON MOTION: YES-Clch, DeLuca, Peterson, Reimann; NO-Pearson. <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />CASE ~4: <br /> <br />City Contribution for the Ramsey Fire Department <br />Relief Association <br /> <br />CouncilmemDer Cich stated he is opposed to the expenditure of <br />SIT,500 to t.he Fire Department Relief Association. It isn't in <br />this year's or next year's budgets; and while the new Council will <br />De looking for ways to cut spending, it is hard to justify this <br />amount ofI money for the Fire Department. The Council is also <br />looking Et spending $5,700 to provide short-term dlsaDi]!ty <br />benefits ~'for the Firefighters, plus they are covered Dy.Workers' <br />ComDensatqon.
