CASE <br /> <br />CONSIDER AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR BUILDING <br />DEMOLITION AND SITE CLEANUP <br /> By: Michael McDowall, Engineering Technician IV <br /> <br />BackgroUnd: <br /> <br />The City a~quired the Morrell Trucking and Chies properties in 2003 for redevelopment <br />purposes~ The Properties are located on the south side of 141st Ave between Azurite and <br />Basalt Struts. Prior to reselling the property in is necessary to raze the existing building and <br />remove deDris and rubble. It is important to prepare the sites promptly to accommodate <br />developmet~t for Spring 2004. Bid proposals for the necessary work were received from <br />three contrflctors as follows: <br /> <br /> · Dryden Excavating $23,995 <br /> ,, Sauter & Sons $24,200 <br /> · DaVe perkins Contracting Inc. $28,540 <br /> <br />In addition2o this demolition work there will also be some hazardous materials which will <br />need to be ~em°ved. A proposal has been received from Luminaire Recyclers in the amount <br />of $950 f'o~',the removal and disposal of fluorescent lamps, ballast, and other mercury <br />containing ~lectric components. Because of the condition of the premises staff is <br />recommend~ing that a contingency be allowed to cover the disposal of additional hazardous <br />materials which, may be encountered in the cleanup process. The cost of this work is <br />proposed ;6 be taken from funds available in Tax Increment Financing District No 2. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff' recOrr~mends that the city council authorize entering into a contract with Dryden <br />Excavating!.in the amount of $23,995 to raze the building and clean the site, and to authorize <br />an additional $3,000 to cover the expenses associated with the removal of hazardous <br />materials. ~. <br /> <br />Action: <br /> <br />Motion to ~opt resolution 04-02-XXX to direct staff to enter into a contract with Dryden <br />Excavating[in the amount of $23,995 to raze the building and clean the site, and to authorize <br />an addition~tl $3~000 for the disposal of hazardous materials encountered in restoring this <br />property to h salable condition. <br /> <br />Reviewed l~y: <br />Director of public Works <br />Assistant public Works Director <br />Finance Officer <br />T.I.F.
