'Confid, ent~ality of Privileged Information <br />Councilmemb~r P~terson cautioned that both Council and Staff need to act professionally and be <br />careful in w}ia~is shid, to maintain confidentiality where needed, to give information accurately to <br />prevent false rjimofs, and to act openly and legally He noted the Work Rules already in place as <br />presented in th( agenda packet, <br /> <br />In further dilg~ussiOn, Staff pointed out the problems they saw of gossiping, spreading rumors, <br />and poor attitudes ~ith very little guidance or direction, which is detrimental to the City. <br /> <br />Ms. McAloney~ asl{ed if the Work Rules need to be changed. Once the rules are to the Council's <br />satisfaction, ;sl~e suggested a copy be given to all employees and signed that the2,, have been read <br />with the understanding that they will be enforced. <br /> <br />Mayor Gilbert~on Stated he is open to whatever anyone has to say to him, preferrina that to having <br />rumors spread ~hi0h ~eatly exaggerate the truth. ~ ~ <br /> <br />Miss Ashley fe~lt it is important that the Council communicate to the Staff that this is a new era and <br />that they wiltb~ expected to adhere to the Work Rules. <br /> <br />In further disCuss;on, Police Chief Auspos suggested the Work Rules are qmte vague and <br />ambiguous ar~d that the real key lies with the Administrator. The problems should be dealt with <br />quickly as thgy!occilr in each D,e, partment, with the supervisors taking the responsibility of "taking <br />the violator i~ theiwoodshed! ' He felt the Work Rules should become more in the way of <br />guidelines tolf6.11oW and that the), should be amended to be more realistic so the), aren't violated by <br />just being a hu.Man ~being. <br /> <br />Councilmemb~r Pe,terson hoped that both the Council and Staff adopt a policy of interacting in a <br />professional ;v4~a',,, both publicly and privately. He wanted to see somethina in the Work Rules <br />which reflects ~ ~ollcv of not acimonishina St~ff or other Councilmembers in l~ublic. <br />Ms. McAlone~ sta(ed she would discuss Work Rules with the Department Heads. then with the <br />Personnel C°~mitt~e, and bring recommendations to the Council for their consideration.
