All construction and landscaping are
by the Tedh Center and maintained by the Tech Center. The Tech Center also
takes care of~lighting and heating. The contract states that the Tech Center
provides office space for the Airport Manager and the Tech Center is allowed
to use the lamd at a rate of $1.00/year. Locating at the airport gives the
students aVailability to have flight training and hands-on operation of an
airport. There has been a decline at Gateway recently and the VoTech's is
concerned with providing an adequate outlook on aviation to the students.
VoTech's stat~.s right now is that if there is not a change within a year,
we will move our facility. This should be of concern to the City of Ramsey
because Our buildings do provide meeting areas at the airport and the VoTech
would like tO.continue the ground school program. Air Traffic Control and
Aviation AdmiDistration are unique programs being offered at a VoTech and
the FAA recognizes the high calibur of students we graduate from the Anoka
VoTecb. ~omm~ssioner Patz noted that Gateway is a very strong facility that
is lying dormant. He also noted that student manpower have volunteered to
provide community awarement.

Jill Newman inquired if enough students could be attracted that would require
a full time instructor.

Commissioner Patz replied that there is interest and VoTech would like to
remain at,Gateway. An improved airport with good Fixed Base Operation
would mean continued VoTech support.

Commissioner Siebert, former Manager and Chief Flight Instructor at Gateway,
stated that at one time there were four full time instructors working 7
days a week at Gateway.

Commissioner Sieber inquired as to what contributed to the decline?

Commissioner Siebert replied that the decline was due to the falling economy
and~good Fixed Base Operation.

Commissioner~SieDer" inquired as to how much of the airport activity is soley
dependent~on :the school.

AP/October 13, 1983
