Councilmemb~ introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: RESOLUTION #92-11- RESOLUTION pROCLAIMING NOVEMBER AS EPILEPSY MONTH IN THE CITY OF R MSEY wHEREA4S, there are more than 100,000 Minnesotans with some form of epilepsy, which is not a ~lisea~se but a disorder of the central nervous system; and WHEREA~;, these Minnesotans are a significant portion of some 2,000,000 Americans from throUghoht th.~ country who have epilepsy; and wHE_R_EA~s, sixty percent (60%) of those persons who have epilepsy are elementary school age or younger; and wHEREA's, in Minnesota there is approximately one child in every other classroom with epilepsy; ~nd ' WHERE~S, epilepsy is the second most common neurological disorder or physical impairment; and wHEREAI$, with early diagnosis and attention to medical, social and neurological aspects, more peop!e will be able to bring their seizures under partial or full control; and WHEREA~$, everyone generally needs more information about epilepsy, its causes and what can be'd0ne !o help in order to change public attitudes from rejection to understanding and acceptance. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RAMSES, 'ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: 1) That the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims November as epilepsy month. 2) Thatthrough this effort, all citizens will have a greater understanding of epilepsy so that peopleWith epilepsy will be better able to take their rightful place in the mainstream of Ame~ean sbciety. The motion fot theladoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember ' and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: and the following Voted against the same: and the follo~ving abstained: and the following were absent: whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted by the Ramsey City Council this the 24th daYqf N~vember, 1992.
