I MEMORANDUM DATE: TO: CC: FROM: RE: August 5, 1992 Ramsey City Council Ryan Schroeder, City Administrator SiexCe Jankowski, City Engineer Merle Mevissen, Public Works Supervisor Mike Auspos, Police Chief Penny Ott, Administrative Coordinator Mark Boos, Parks/Utilities Coordinator Naming of Bear and Emerald Pond Parks In June 1991, the City Council adopted Resolution #91-06-138, the Park and Recreation Commission's pub'lic facility naming policy. The policy is that (paraphrased) park names will generally refl{~ct tl~e name of the subdivision or other geographic features. Since the naming of Rabbit Park, the Commission has informally modified the policy to lend preference to park names that reflect th~ natural world (like Rabbit Park). This begets an identity for the park, especially when the. parkmay serve multiple subdivisions with different or otherwise mundane names. Any potential for theme~ within park development may be a bonus. At the July 30, 1992 meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission, motions were made to formally name tw°'parks: l) The three am park southeast of Juniper Ridge Drive and west of Roanoke Street would be called ~Bem- Park". (Ballfield construction, as you know, has been donated and completed by a generOus Ramsey businessperson.) -and. 2) The 13 acr~ park north of Industry Avenue and contained within the subdivisions of Cedar Hills, Che,s.,tnut Pond, Chestnut Hills and Windemere Woods would be called "Emerald Pond Park !. (City Staff is currently designing bid specifications as a step to propose a development schedule to City Council.
