Minnesota Department of Agriculture

June 30.1992

612-296-0592

We are now in a. position to offer direct cost share assistance to communities for oak wilt suppression. To access these funds, >'our community needs to Fill in and submit
the attached/a ' lica.tion form and return it by Jub' 15 to be eligible for thc firsl round of funding. These funds
must be used this y-ei, ar with as much of the work being accomplished by October 1 as is possible. Continuing
funding may baavaflable in 1993.

Two pmeti~s relating to oak wilt suppression can be cost shared at this time. Firstly, suppression activities arc
eligible. Secondly, the removal and disposal of potential spore producing trees is an
inspections an~
approved practice.

I have enclose~ som~ additional information on oak wilt including a summary of other cost share programs for oak
wilt and ~ full Bosm~i,, ption of the oak wilt cost share practices available under the CSP. Oak wilt suppression is a
relatively siml~..e task, but doe~ require some advanced planning and the preparation of a community action plan.
You will n~dlu~ p&pare a conu'ol plan, but this is not a comphcated task. Planning can be accomplished by
community .p~sonr~el or private consultants, but, in either case, technical assistance is available from the
Departments 0f' Nau,~-al Resources and Agriculture.

Time is short ion ~ese funds. Fill in the application form and send it in as soon as possible. If I can be of
assistance, pl .e-',~ call.

Sincerely, ~

Dan Gil!m~n , ~
Oak Wilt Control Coordinator

·Piant Indust~-v Division · qf~A. est Piatr~ bouJevard · Saint Paul.
