Sign Area means that area within the marginal lines of the surface which bears the advertisement, <br />or in the case of messages, figures or symbols attached directly to any part of a building, that area <br />which is included in the smallest geometric shape which can be made to circumscribe the message, <br />figure or symbol displayed thereon. The stipulated maximum sign area for a free standing or <br />ground sign refers to a single facing. <br /> <br />Street Frontage refers to the proximity of a parcel of land to one (1) or more streets. An interior <br />lot has one (1) street frontage and a corner lot has two (2) such frontages. <br /> <br />Temporary Sign means a sign which is erected or displayed for a limited period of time and not <br />affixed to a UBC approved structure. <br /> <br />Wall Sign means any sign which is affixed to a wall of any building. This definition includes <br />individual letter signs and signs on mansards. <br /> <br />Window Sign means a sign installed inside a window, or any sign placed within a building for <br />the purpose of being visible from the public fight-of-way. This does not include merchandise on <br />display. <br /> <br />9.12.03 GENERAL PROVISIONS <br /> <br />Subd. 1 <br /> <br />Address sign. One (1) address sign shall be required per main building in all <br />districts in accordance with Section 8.02 of the Ramsey City Code. <br /> <br />Subd. 2 Bench sign. Bench signs shall be permitted only at bus stops. <br /> <br />Subd. 3 <br /> <br />Ground Sign. A ground sign shall not project higher than twenty five (25) feet <br />as measured from base of sign or grade of the nearest adjacent roadway, whichever <br />is lower. Any ground sign within fifty (50) feet of any intersection of street fight- <br />of-way lines and/or driveway entrances shall have a minimum vertical clearance of <br />twelve (12) feet above the centefline of the pavement. <br /> <br />Subd. 4 <br /> <br />Canopies or Marquees. Canopies and marquees shall be considered to be an <br />integral part of the structure to which they are an accessory. Signs may be attached <br />to a canopy or marquee, but such structures shall not be considered as part of the <br />wall area and thus shall not warrant additional sign area. <br /> <br />Subd. 5 Location. <br /> <br />a) <br /> <br />No sign other than governmental signs shall be erected or temporarily placed within any <br />street or public right-of-way or upon any public easement. <br /> <br />b) <br /> <br />A permit for a sign to be located within fifty (50) feet of any street or highway regulatory or <br />warning sign, or any traffic sign or signal, or of any crossroad or crosswalk, will not be <br />issued unless: <br /> <br />The sign will not interfere with the ability of drivers and pedestrians to see any <br />street or highway sign, or any traffic sign or signal, or any crossroad or crosswalk; <br /> <br />Draft Date March 30, 1992 <br /> Page 4 of 19 <br /> <br />?0 <br /> <br />I <br />I' <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />i <br /> <br /> I <br /> <br /> I <br /> i <br /> <br /> I <br /> I <br /> ! <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> <br /> <br />
