Councilmemb~ introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: RESOLUTION g92-02- RESOLUTION I~ROCLAIMING APRIL 25, 1992 AS "ARBOR DAY" AND THE MONTH OF ~MA~ 1992 AS "ARBOR MONTH" WHEP,~AS, Minnesota's forest treasures were a significant resource to early settlers and commerce be~a~Se~0f their usefulness and the value-added environment they provided; and WHEP~EA$, trees are an increasingly vital resource in Minnesota today, enriching our lives by purifying a~r and water, helping conserve soil and providing local energy, creating jobs through a larg~ for~st products industry, serving as beautiful recreational settings, providing habitat for wi!dlife0f all kinds, making our cities more liveable and are related to all aspects of a healthy, sustain ~abl¢ ~liverse ecosystem; and WHER~EA$, human activities such as construction damage and pollution, as well as disease and iasC. ts, t~hreaten our trees, creating the need for concerted action to ensure the future of urban and rural foregts in our state, country and world by locally planting, nurturing and protecting trees for wise u~ in ~he years ahead; and WHER!EA$, each year on the last Friday in April - "Arbor Day" - the people of Minnesota pay ~pec!al attention to the wond,e_fful treasure that our u'ees represent and dedicate themselves to th~ c°fitinued health of our state s urban and rural forests; and WHER]~ASi, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world and the City of RamseYhas been recognized for three years as a Tree City, USA. NOW THE~__F-~ORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RAMSEY~ AI~OKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: 1) That the Ran~ey City Council hereby proclaims April 25, 1992 as "Arbor Day". 2) That the RamSey city Council hereby proclaims the month of May 1992 as "Arbor Month". 3) That the Ram~ey City Council urges all citizens to become more aware of the importance of trees to their ~ell-being, to participate in tree planting programs that will ensure a green MinnesOta inldecades to come and to plant, nurture, protect and wisely plan the use of MinneS°~'s g~reat treasure of wood resources from trees.
