Councilmemb~ <br /> <br />introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION g92-02- <br /> <br />RESOLUTION I~ROCLAIMING APRIL 25, 1992 AS "ARBOR DAY" AND THE <br />MONTH OF ~MA~ 1992 AS "ARBOR MONTH" <br /> <br /> WHEP,~AS, Minnesota's forest treasures were a significant resource to early settlers and <br />commerce be~a~Se~0f their usefulness and the value-added environment they provided; and <br /> WHEP~EA$, trees are an increasingly vital resource in Minnesota today, enriching our <br />lives by purifying a~r and water, helping conserve soil and providing local energy, creating jobs <br />through a larg~ for~st products industry, serving as beautiful recreational settings, providing <br />habitat for wi!dlife0f all kinds, making our cities more liveable and are related to all aspects of a <br />healthy, sustain ~abl¢ ~liverse ecosystem; and <br /> <br /> WHER~EA$, human activities such as construction damage and pollution, as well as <br />disease and iasC. ts, t~hreaten our trees, creating the need for concerted action to ensure the future of <br />urban and rural foregts in our state, country and world by locally planting, nurturing and protecting <br />trees for wise u~ in ~he years ahead; and <br /> WHER!EA$, each year on the last Friday in April - "Arbor Day" - the people of <br />Minnesota pay ~pec!al attention to the wond,e_fful treasure that our u'ees represent and dedicate <br />themselves to th~ c°fitinued health of our state s urban and rural forests; and <br /> <br /> WHER]~ASi, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world and the <br />City of RamseYhas been recognized for three years as a Tree City, USA. <br />NOW THE~__F-~ORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF RAMSEY~ AI~OKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />1) That the Ran~ey City Council hereby proclaims April 25, 1992 as "Arbor Day". <br /> <br />2) That the RamSey city Council hereby proclaims the month of May 1992 as "Arbor Month". <br /> <br />3) That the Ram~ey City Council urges all citizens to become more aware of the importance of <br /> trees to their ~ell-being, to participate in tree planting programs that will ensure a green <br /> MinnesOta inldecades to come and to plant, nurture, protect and wisely plan the use of <br /> MinneS°~'s g~reat treasure of wood resources from trees. <br />The motion for flie aC[option of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br />and vote being tak. en ~ereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br />and the following vot~ against the same: <br />and the following absr. ained: <br />and the following were absent: <br /> <br />whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted by the Ramsey City Council this <br />the 25th day of F~bruhry, 1992. <br /> <br /> <br />
