Case #2 CiTY FUNDING REQUEST FROM ELK RIVER COMMUNITY EDUCATION ! Mr. Blesener requested 1992 funding assistance from the !'cirt~' of Ramsey for this program in the amount of $4,465 ($2.77/caPiia -~based on 1,612 Ramsey residents served by the Elk River School District) As a ~oint of information, on that same day the Elk River Area School District B~ardi approved a joint powers agreement between the District and area citieS?r an~l townships interested in paying for a recreation coordinator. During dlsPus~,ion Councilmember Peterson stated that the intent of Council's 1992 budget !allocation of $3,500 ($2.17/capita) was to support community education~prd~jects other than athletics in District 728. The Council then directed t~e i~nformation presented by Mr. Blesener be brought back to the Budget Cd~mmittee for consideration. Mr. Blese~er irecently contacted me and asked the status of their funding request. H~ stated Elk River, Otsego, Rogers and Hassan Township have agreed to partl¢il~ate.' in funding the recreation coordinator position. Big Lake Township, Dayton and Zimmerman are not able to participate at this time. The District ha~ fililed the position of Recreation Coordinator, but as the individual was just: iired, Mr. Blesener has advised the funding request of the cities for 1992 wil! :)e ~educed to 10/12 of the original request. For Ramsey this would be a revls,~d r~umber of $3,721 or $2.31/capita. ; Mr. BleseJner[also stated that if Ramsey would prefer to fund community education !pro~lrams rather than the athletic or recreational programs, he could suggest s~ver~al areas where funding could be placed. A specific example he mentioned~woCd be the funding of buses for after school enrichment programs.
