II <br /> <br /> i <br /> I <br />'i <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> <br />150.01 SEWAGE DISPOSAL SYSTEMS <br /> <br />150.011 OBJECTIVES <br /> <br />The objectives of this chapter are to provide to the extent possible, with <br />on-site systems, adequate and safe methods of sewage disposal and to prevent <br />the contamination of any existing or future water supply by existing or <br />future sewage disposal systems. However, the system, procedt~res, and other <br />requirements of this chapter amc not to be construed such as to afford direct <br />protection to an individual land owner, but rather the purpose of this chapter <br />is to adopt a general public policy relating to sewage disposal and clean <br />water supplies. <br /> <br />150.012 DEFINITIONS <br /> <br />For the purpose of this chapter, certain tez~ns or words used herein shall be <br />interpreted as follows: The word "shall" is mandatory; the words "should" and <br />"may" are permissive. Ail distances, unless otherwise specified, shall be <br />measured horizontally. <br /> <br />1) "Administrator" is the plun~bing inspector, <br /> <br />2) "Agency" is the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. <br /> <br /> 3) "Agency Approved Disposal Facility" is any disposal facility <br />which has a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit or <br />State Disposal System Permit or letter of approval from the agency. <br /> <br /> 4) "Alternative System" is an individual sewage treatment system <br />employing such methods and devices presented in Section 150.014G <br /> <br /> 5) "Baffle" is a device installed in a spetic tank for proper <br />operation of the tank and to provide maximum retention of solids, and includes <br />vented sanitary tees and su]smerged pipes in addition to those devices that are <br />normally called baffles. <br /> <br /> 6) "Bedroom" is any room within a dwelling that, in the judg- <br />ment of the Building Official and in compliance with the State Building Code <br />might reasonably be used as a sleeping room, including but not limited to <br />rooms designated as den, office or study, and unfinished areas with potential <br />development to same. <br /> <br /> 7) "Building Drain" is that part of the lowest piping of the <br />drainage system which ~eceives the discharge from soil, waste, and other <br />drainage pipes inside the walls of the building and conveys to the building <br />sewer beginning at least one (1) foot outside the building footing. <br /> <br /> 8) "Building Sewer" is that part of the drainage system which <br />extends from the end of the building drain and conveys its discharge to an <br />individual sewag~ treatment system or to a public sanitary sewage collection <br />system. <br /> <br /> 9) "Capacity" is the liquid volume of a sewage tank using in- <br />side cimensions telow the outlet. <br /> <br /> 10) "Cesspool" is an underground pit into which raw household <br />sewa[~ or other · ntreated liquid waste is discharged and from which the iix <br />seep~ into the s~,rrounding soil. <br /> <br /> <br />
