I September 16, 1983 ~'~ayor Tom Gamec Councilmembers Gary Reimann, Sue V~n Wagner and A1 Sorteberg Re: Questions pertaining to Hazardous Waste: Policies and Procedures These questions were distributed at a public informational meeting I attende~ on ~ednesday evening to those in attenda~ce. We used them in small group d~scussion and then shared our answers an8 other statements qualifying our answers with the entire audience. There was but just a handful of people in attendance,- which ~_elped to make the .groups small enough · so everyone could share their opinions s.ud ideas, but it was disturbinM to me that so fe'~ people had a continued interest in what is probably one of the most important issues affecting our society at this time. ! am hoping that the Saste ~anagement Board will thoroughly digest all input ~uring this stage of the process and will ~se the many points of concern the citizens have in puttin~ to,.ether a P~an for .the'L~gisiative ~Committee. The ~esu!t of the process will be'~ Plan we will_have'to live ~ith that wil~ set standards and'policies for~dealing with hazardous wast~ in Ei~nesota. I would appreciate it if you would ~nswer these questions and I will then be able to compile them in a staiement perhaps or in some ~or~ puz the answers together so that you will also have had input at this time. I will share this information at the next PA~F meeting at the end of this monzh and in that way I can be assured that our city co~m~,cil has ~ad mn opportunity to answer questions such as the public has had at this time. Perhaps too, there may be reason for you to qualify some.or, your ansers and I would appreciate your doing so in order to get your full input into a certain question. I also ask that you read the chapter on Eitigation and Compens:~ion and react to it vis a written statement that I can compile into a response from our council to Waste i~anag~;.m, ent. These two items will help me to participate in the next PATF meeting. I would appreci~.te your input at the September 20 meeting.
