I I I I I I I I I I ! i ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT 'IN ANOKA A POSITION PAPER Prepared by the Anoka Economic Development Commission PURPOSE This position paper provides a basis for discussing the proper course of action for the City of Anoka in economic development. Although the ordinance establish- ing the Commission spells out certain duties and powers, it is deemed prudent by this Commission to set forth a clear statement concerning goals and methods for Anoka in economic development. Anoka has had the good fortune to enjoy a relatively stable economy for over 130 years. Our assets include having several major industries, being the County seat, and being a historic and identifiable town on the two rivers. On the other hand, Anok;~ has lost much of its regional influence and the economy of the City is more complex and less stable due to outside influences of regional shopping centers and fl~ctuations in national and international markets. Within this environment, protection of the City's tax base is in the public interest.
