10 Minutes CASE #12:

MUNICIPAL STATE AID STREET MAP
By: Pete Raatikka, City Engineer

Background:

At the October 28, 1986 City Council meeting, the Council directed an update of
the Municipal State Aid street map.

Based on the current City street mileage, the designated State Aid street
mileage is within 0.46 miles of the maximum allowed by the State. Following
the certification of mileage as of December 31, 1986, the mileage available for
MSAS designation should increase to approximately one mile. Therefore, the
City should consider revising or adding to the State Aid street mileage.

Exhibit "A", under separate cover, is the updated map.

Recommendation:

I would recommend that the City review the MSAS system and update it to utilize
the maximum amount of mileage available to the City. The Council may want to
direct the City Engineer to meet with the Road and Bridge Committee to review
possible changes to the MSAS system.

Review Checklist:

Administrator
Attorney
Engineer
Community Development Director

Chief of Police
Finance Officer
Public Works Superintendent
Other
