5 Minutes CASE ~12:

RAMSEY MUNICIPAL CENTER CONVERSION TO NATURAL GAS
By: Dave Rartley, City Administrator

Background:

Within the last month natural gas has been made available to the Ramsey
Municipal Center by North Central Public Service Company. Inquiries into the
possible cost of converting Ramsey's three burner oil fired boilers to natural
gas and running the service to the building generated an estimate of approxi-
mately $2,300. The current cost of fuel oil is 53.9 cents per gallon, or .37
cents per 1,000 BTU, and the cost of natural gas is 37.4 cents per cubic foot,
or .40 cents per 1,000 BTU.

Recommend at ion:

At the current cost of fuel oil, there does not appear to be sufficient cost
savings to warrant conversion. However, if fuel oil prices rise and natural
gas prices remain constant, we may wish to reconsider.

Review Checklist:

Administrator X
Attorney
Engineer X
Community Development Director

Chief of Police
Finance Officer
Public Works Superintendent
Other
